Six Month Checkup

Another six months have passed and we are very close to Mom's 3 year diagnosis anniversary. She recently had her CT scan which was said to be clean. Her CA 19-9 came out to be 45 which is near the high end of her previous history (priors include 48 and 43) but we hope that this is nothing to be concerned about. She received the GVAX booster shots and her reaction was deemed favorable to it (itching, swelling and slight fever).

I just found your site and wanted to share the one I made for my dad with his battle against pancreatic cancer (www.lopezfight.com). He was diagnosed on October 22, 2008 and is currently on chemo. He actually met with Dr. Laheru last week. I have shared this site with my dad to give him hope. I'm glad to see Mrs. Jhong is receiving the vaccine well.

Thanks - recent news about the vaccine recently indicates it may not be that effective (at least for other types of cancer) but unclear to me. Your father sounds like he is doing well and has wonderful support. I hope the treatments are going well and not too difficult.

Thanks Eugene. I read that article you posted. Is the GVAX the same vaccine that Dr. Jaffee developed and reported with Dr. Laheru in 2005? Did they hire Cell Genesys to reproduce their vaccine on a grander scale? Please let me know what you find from Dr. Laheru. I've been in open dialog with Dr. Laheru on e-mail. It seems too early to tell if my dad will be a candidate for the vaccine itself as he just finished his first cycle of his chemo.
